RMI Solutions Journal

RMI Decided they needed to refresh their tri-annual newsletter by giving it an "alumni journal" style look and feel. Being the only in house designer at RMI I was given the task of designing the cover as well as many of the illustrations within the publication. Check out the cover and other illustrations below or go here to download the entire magazine in PDF form.

The Trek To Re-Energize America

This is the brain child of my close friend from school J.P. Kemmick. His goal is to get as many students and people as possible to bike across America during the summer of 2009 gathering media and political attention for action on environmental issues. Knowing that I share in his passion for eco activism, JP asked me to build the website. A brief description of the trek is all that's been up for the past couple months while I've been working on finishing the actual site. It should be up any day now!

PLU

My alma mater continues to do good things in it's steady green evolution. Now they're buying green tags to offset 20% of their energy consumption. Hopefully the student initiative that JP started will get through and the tuition increase will allow them to buy even more tags.

Focus the Nation / Power Shift

I've been asked by some friends at The Cascade Climate Network to help with the advertising for the local iterations of Focus and Powershift, two nation wide climate change movements. These guys are coming up soon, so mark your calendars.

Edgeworks Climbing Gym

Tod Bloxham, the owner of the gym I've been climbing at for over a year now, found out I do graphic design and hired me to do some print stuff for him.

Bishop Trip

I was lucky enough to take off to California for a couple weeks this December to do some bouldering with Ruthie and friends Sean and Owen. WOW.

Our Sister's House

This non profit in Tacoma, that operates with the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center and specializes in offering programs to combat domestic violence, contracted me to make a couple brochures for two of their programs.

Insomniac Film Festival

I was invited to help a number of my former co-workers shoot and edit a 3 minute short film in a 24 hour time period for Apple's Insomnia Film Festival. Despite technical difficulties we cranked out a video with 15 minutes to spare! I wouldn't call it the apex of my cinematic achievements, but it was definitely a good experience and fun was had by all.

Getaway/Save the Redwoods League

Ruthie decided to record an album and donate all the proceeds to the
Save The Redwoods League! She and I worked collaboratively on the CD art which turned out great. Please pester her to make more copies so she can sell them again.

Alternative Fuels Discussion

I was invited by JP to give a discussion on alternative fuels as one of PLU's Earth Week activities. I focused mainly on biodiesel and waste vegetable oil because these seem like some of the best options we have right now and it's reasonable to assume many college students could use them... like I do! I also covered plug in hybrids, hydrogen powered cars, and algae derived biodiesel. Algae gets me very excited as it seems like an amazing solution to our fuel dilemma. I was also able to borrow a friend's old Mercedes WVO vehicle to show people the dual tank system and how it works.

Beach Cleanup

Ruthie and I headed out to the Olympic Peninsula to help out with a semi annual beach cleanup day. We decided to take it upon ourselves to get as many huge truck tires as possible off the beach... up a half mile of switchbacks! Somehow we didn't get any pictures...
